DCAA Other Government Audits Disputes

The Defense Contract Audit Agency (DCAA) and other government agencies routinely perform audits in every phase of a government contract from pre-award accounting systems and proposals all the way through contract close-out.  During the life of the contract, a contractor will likely endure many audits including audits of incurred cost submissions (ICS), business systems (cost estimating, accounting, time reporting) and policies and procedures to name just a few.

Contractor’s will routinely have audits in every step of the of the contract lifecycle:

Government audits inevitably lead to issues and disputes which can be difficult and costly to resolve.  CGS’ extensive experience in working with and responding to government audits and inquiries combined with our data analytics and Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) and Cost Accounting Standard (CAS) knowledge, allows us to successfully guide our clients through government audits and successful dispute resolution.

Our knowledge and understanding of government audits enables us to develop a strategy and plan so that the company is well prepared for the audit and is aware of the potential issues and disputes that can arise.  Our firm is well-versed on what the DCAA and other government agencies will request during the audit and what they expect to receive.  We also understand why the DCAA is asking the specific questions that they’re asking.  Understanding the “why” is critical in properly responding and avoiding issues.

Part of our strategy is to perform “pre-audits.”  These preaudits are very helpful in identifying potential issues and then the strategies to address them before the DCAA even begins.  CGS has assisted numerous clients in performing such pre-audits.

The pre-audits can include reviewing and testing the company’s internal controls, business systems, policies and procedures, and in some cases, the company’s overall compliance program.  The pre-audits are a key step to ensure that the company is adequately prepared for the government audit.

In other circumstances, contractors will receive one-off inquiries and/or an audit of a limited scope in which they need assistance in responding.  CGS can help your company to prepare effective responses that are supported by solid data and references to the appropriate regulations.
